El Hispano supports Jon Corzine for Governor
October 27, 2009
Republicans and Democrats are watching the election in New Jersey because everybody thinks that the results will indicate the direction of next year’s congressional races. Jon Corzine came to power four years ago hoping to lower property taxes, improve education and create jobs among other goals. We believe that he deserves another chance to pursue his agenda. The economic slump was not of his creation, but it impeded his efforts to straighten the economy.
Jon Corzine has been able to fulfill part of his agenda in spite of the economic obstacles. He instituted new crime prevention and community building initiatives to help at-risk children stay in school and graduate. He improved the educational outlook of the state and at the beginning of October was able to announce improvements in school performance that narrowed the achievement gap. Family care in New Jersey reached a record number of 12,000 children enrolled in four months with a net increase of 100,000 children. He supports programs that promote fitness and nutrition, extended unemployment compensation, convened a Summit to highlight High School graduation rates, and has promoted solar energy and other initiatives to improve the lives of the people of New Jersey.
Barack Obama said in support of Corzine’s reelection that he is a man “who cares about what is right for New Jersey.” Senator Bob Menendez has said that Corzine “ is a friend to Hispanics.” Jon Corzine is the candidate who offers real solutions and we must give him our vote.
