I don’t need to tell you that times are tough. The challenges that we face as a state and a nation are as difficult as those faced by any generation of Americans. Even though the current economic crisis is global in origins and scope, here in New Jersey, every community is feeling its effects. Every family knows what it means to sit around the kitchen table and tighten their belts.

Especially in times like these, it is essential that our leaders hold firm to our core values and show the courage to do the right thing.

My administration has been, and will continue to be, guided by the same values that I’ve championed since my tenure as your U.S. Senator. I believe in the constant search for the common good – in our responsibility to nurture our children, honor our seniors, and protect those among us who are most vulnerable.

These values have guided everything that I do as governor. Let’s continue to work together in promoting economic opportunity for all New Jersey families, and in building a bright future for our kids and grandkids.
