New Jersey's Mortgage Foreclosure Mediation Program started last year in Middlesex County and went statewide in January. As of June, 52 percent of cases were settled with 281 people keeping their homes, said David Wald, a spokesman for the attorney general.

While visiting the Veterans Affairs clinic in Brick, I mentioned something about Gov. Jon Corzine's contributions to the veterans community. A World War II veteran said, "You're not going to vote for that guy, are you?" I cautioned him to check his facts before condemning the governor. When there was a need for more space at Veterans Haven (a transitional homeless veterans facility in Winslow), Corzine led the fight for a $1 million appropriation to begin the expansion process, resulting in doubling the number of veterans in residence.
